You’ve created a Facebook page for your business and were expecting it to sky rocket with activity.  So why does your page have such a small fan count?

The reasons could be several.  Is your content engaging enough?  Are you responsive when people post to your page or comment with feedback or questions?  If the answer is yes – then it all comes down to exposure.

Here are two ways you can start growing your Facebook page community today.

#1 – Facebook Advertising

Like many, I was skeptical when Facebook launched their advertising offering for business pages.  However, it has become the premiere way to quickly and cost-effectively increase your page likes.

Where Facebook advertising shines is in the vast array of options it gives its advertisers.  You can pinpoint your target audience based on location, age, interests and more.  I’ve had clients who spend as little as $50 per month up to $1,000 per month and all have been incredibly successful.  It just depends on what your goals are.  Also, cost per click (CPC) on Facebook is much lower than you’d spend on Google Adwords, for example.  Most come in at or under $1 CPC.

Tip:  Although Facebook gives you the option to link your ad to your website, I always recommend linking it to your Facebook page.  With Facebook, when someone likes your page – you can reach them multiple times with your content.  If you link them to your page and they don’t fill out any lead capture forms – you’ve lost them.

#2 – Contests

Contests are a great way to not only get your community engaged, but to grow your page likes!  The giveaway doesn’t have to be huge – a percentage off at your company or a $25 gift card works great.  But one of the caveats of entering the contest is that they have to like your page.  Make the offer enticing – and people will flock to your page to sign up.  Even better?  Run an advertising campaign highlighting your contest.  Double the opportunity to increase your Facebook fans!

Tip: Facebook requires the use of an approved third-party app provider when running contests.  I recommend Offerpop or Short Stack.

Bonus Idea – Join the Dialog!

Is your business B2B?  Chances are your potential clients also have Facebook pages.  Like their pages as your business page and get involved in the dialog (again, as your business).  Be careful how often you do this — it needs to feel natural.  If you’re constantly posting, it will feel like you’re spamming their page.  Do so sporadically – and where there’s an easy flow.  And most importantly, don’t respond with something promotional about your company.  That will only get you banned from the page.  People will know who you are, since you’re posting as your business page.
